Step and Repeat: Rihanna at the Battleship Premiere, Japan

Rihanna in Emilio Pucci

Oh Rihanna, you rebel you. How I enjoy your ever changing hairstyles and don't give a *insert the blank here* attitude. Good on you for attempting the pant suit trend sweeping the runways these days. But dear, of all people, you should know that with risks come major rewards or major failures. This ensemble leans more towards a major failure I believe.

Listen, I am all for pants on the red carpet, but a well fitted suit and pajama pants are entirely different creatures. The color is lovely on her skin tone, and the brocade is fantastically on trend. However, the fit of suit is absolutely not flattering. Here is a woman that has one of the best bodies in the business, and you wouldn't be able to tell under that mess of fabric around her mid section. The shoes are essentially non-existent, a black pump would have been a bolder choice, adding punctuation to the look. She is pulling a female Hugh Hefner with this outfit, and though it's an interesting idea, the greatness got lost in execution.

A slimmer fit, would have done wonders, taking it out of the bedroom onto the red(blue) carpet. This picture shows the possibility of what it could be, but head on the outfit is a downright mess.
Lovely, eye catching jewelry she has. I applaud the fact that she went for larger pieces, they add to the inverted va va voom look she was going for. Though the fabric is beautiful, it is obviously not meant to be worn for a lengthy amount of time. Hello wrinkles.

In the end, she accomplished her goal and stood out from the crowd of beautiful people. I am positive this look will be polarizing, you'll either love it or hate it.

Guess which side I'm on.

Step and Repeat: Ricki Noel Lander at the Life Happens Premiere

Ricki Noel Lander

An unknown, burgeoning actress may still be a nebula, but that certainly doesn't mean she can't look the part of a true star. Too bad Ricki hasn't learned that lesson yet. She's made a few well known mistakes here. Here is a beautiful woman who looks average due to a washed out color palatte and ill advised styling. Let's break it down.

Most women in Hollywood have a difficult time trying to find the delicate balance between age appropriateness and societal expectations, however Ricki is definitely on the should be worn by a preteen, early teenager side here. She's a young, virile woman who can pull off most looks, but honey, 13 isn't one of them. Now I love a good ballet skirt, reminds me of childhood, (clue number 1), and what woman isn't intrigued with tulle? But if you're going to work a younger skewing look like that, pair it with something more sophisticated, like a blazer and a collared shirt (not of the Peter Pan variety), and a cool statement necklace. A white loose fitting tank, only hearkens back to the barre. I will say that I love that Ricki attempted an interesting shoe pairing rather than the overly tired nude platform. I just wish she would have got the coloring right. Green was a cool choice with the pale pink, but the green she chose is too bold. She needed a lighter, dustier green to match the look, think chartreuse rather than kelly. If she wanted to go the ever popular pop of color route, she could have chosen a bold red, or purple to liven up her look. Just say no to clashing green, just say no.

Try, try again Ricki. I'm sure you'll get another invitation...

Step and Repeat: Kristen Stewart at the 2012 Nickelodeon Awards

Kristen Stewart in Stella McCartney

Now I will be the first one to admit that I like Kristen Stewart. I
love her style, I love her attitude, I love her spirit. That said, I am not entirely in love with this look. Let me start by stating the dress looks beautiful on her, though slightly ill-fitted. The color is lovely with her skin tone and piercing green eyes. The shoes I can live without, perhaps something not in the same tonal range would work better, preferably with some edge. All together however, a very good look, one to get noticed in.

I am just a little tired of the lace/sheer moment she seems to be having.

Case in point:

So I say this, dear dear Kristen. Please recognize that I think you look fierce as *insert the blank* in sheer lace, however it is time to excite the audience with something new. Shock us all over again, put the wow back in the collective conversation rather than oh yes, she looks great in lace.
I know...
